WHY does mindfulness matter?

Mindfulness has SO many benefits, it's an incredible tool to help temper anxiety, overwhelm and stress, to better navigate our emotions, work with acceptance and nurture kindness for yourself and others.

It also offers an opportunity for a pocket of time just for YOU each week too - a moment of peace and stillness amongst the ups and downs of life…a little calm in the chaos.

Mindfulness & meditation helps you to….

  • Slow down, let go and feel less distracted

  • Manage big emotions such as tiredness, anger and guilt

  • Be kinder to yourself and others

  • Build capacity to better cope with stress

  • Build resilience to ride the highs and lows of life

  • Sleep better

  • Find more focus and boost your concentration and creativity

Mindfulness reduces your stress response...

Mental and physical stress cause increased levels of stress hormones - cortisol and adrenaline. This produces many of the harmful effects of stress and can disrupt sleep, promote depression and anxiety, increase blood pressure and contribute to fatigue and cloudy thinking. In countless studies mindfulness-based training has shown to significantly reduce the body's stress response.

Mindfulness = kindfulness

(to yourself and others)

Mindfulness that involves self-compassion and self-kindness increases the hormone oxytocin ('the cuddle chemical' which makes us feel happy and connected). But what's even better is that oxytocin has a cardioprotective effect - it reduces blood pressure, acts as an antioxidant and also speeds up wound healing.  This is the scientific reason I weave in a lot of what I call ‘kindfulness' into my tools and practices - because it has such positive effects on the body, heart and mind.
